Axil 320


System

The 320 is a SPARCstation-20 compatible, providing the full quota of two MBus slots. The memory controller is a custom Axil ASIC, as is the MBus-SBus interface chip.

The MBus in the 320 is autoswitched to either 40/50MHz, just like the SPARCstation-20.


Firmware Revisions

I have no information on the available 320 BootPROMs.

The 320 may not support all the modules that the SPARCstation-20 does, depending on available Axil BootPROM revisions.


Overheating

Internally, the 320 chassis is the same as the SPARCstation-20 with the exception of the location of the disk-drive bays (which can accomodate bigger, half-height drives).

Thus the 320 should be similar to the SPARCstation-20 regarding heat risks, although your mileage may vary (be cautious if using a pair of hot internal disk drives).


Other Issues

Double-width modules will block one SBus slot each. Whether such modules work or not in the 320, has yet to be determined.
